Walking to school
The NSW Department of Education promotes walking to school for its health and environmental benefits, encouraging families to make it a safe and regular habit. There is no specific legal age for children to walk to school alone in NSW, but parents are responsible for their child's safety. To ensure safety, parents should supervise young children (under 8) closely, teach children the "Stop, Look, Listen, Think" rule, and practice safe road crossing techniques, with supervised practice being essential for building independence.
