Uniform
When students wear a school uniform, they feel included in our school community.
Our school uniform
The Grafton Public School uniform is available to purchase from Lowes.
Students are expected to wear their school uniform every day. Students are required to wear their uniform whenever they participate in activities outside the school. Students and/or parents/carers will be informed when temporary changes, eg mufti days, are allowed.
Students in Years 3–6 have a sports uniform which is to be worn on the appropriate day. Sports uniform is optional for Kinder to Year 2.
PLEASE NOTE: Following Leadership Training, Year 6 students will be supplied with a ‘leaders hat’. There is an expectation that this hat will be worn daily during all PE and sport activities.
A clothing pool is located in the office at both the Mary St and Queen St campuses. Items are available for purchase for $2 each.

Uniform guidelines
Teacher Authority:
- All teachers can direct students to remove unsuitable or unsafe clothing.
- Teachers also ensure students follow Sun Safety and uniform rules.
Sun Safety Policy:
- In line with WH&S and the NSW Department of Education Sun Safe Policy, students must wear school hats when directed.
- No Hat, Play in the Shade: Only students wearing a school hat may play on the grass playground.
Uniform Requirements:
- Students out of uniform will be given alternative clothing for the day.
- We understand that at times, there may be difficulties in providing a uniform. If a student cannot wear the uniform, parents are asked to provide a note to the classroom teacher.
Representing the School:
- Students must wear the full school uniform, including the school hat, when representing the school at events.
Grooming:
- Nail polish is not permitted at school.
- All students are required to wear their hair in a neat and tidy manner at all times. Long hair must be securely tied back using hair accessories in school colours.
Jewellery:
Safety considerations in regard to the amount and type of jewellery students wear to school are required under WH&S legislation and the Guidelines for the Safe Conduct of Sports and Physical Activities.
Girls and boys at Grafton Primary School are permitted to wear:
- studs or sleepers in pierced ears – boys studs only
- one plain chain necklace, which is to be worn under the shirt collar
- one plain bracelet
- one plain ring
In a number of sporting and physical activities students may be required to remove all jewellery. All students will be directed to remove unsafe and inappropriate jewellery. Using these guidelines all teachers have the authority to direct students to remove jewellery that does not comply with the policy.
Parents are advised that nose, belly button and multiple ear piercing for primary age students is not appropriate due to these safety considerations. The school cannot be responsible for any injuries sustained at school through inappropriate body piercing.
Want to donate your old school uniforms?
If you have any gently used school uniforms you'd like to donate, please drop them off at either the Infants or Primary campus office.
Your donations will go a long way in helping other families in our school community. Thank you!
