Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

At Grafton Public School, SRE is delivered weekly, for students in Years Kindergarten to Year 6.

SRE classes are offered in a combined Christian SRE arrangement organised by the Grafton City Churches Education Board Incorporated which consists of Grafton Presbyterian Church, Riverside (ACC), Grafton Catholic Parish, The Hub (Baptist), New Life, Citiview, Seventh Day Adventist, True Vine Christian Fellowship,

St Matthew’s (Anglican), Connect (Presbyterian), Salvation Army, Free Presbyterian Church & Grafton Uniting Church. The approved providers in this combined arrangement are:  Presbyterian Church of Australia (NSW) . Australian Christian Churches(ACC),  Baptist Union of NSW, The Church of the Foursquare Gospel Australia, Anglican Diocese of Grafton, The Salvation Army, & Uniting Church in Australia (NSW Synod),Catholic Diocese of Lismore and Seventh Day Adventist churches.

All Christian SRE teachers are authorised and trained by an approved provider.

Upon enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE and SEE participation letter to complete and return. After initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE/SEE should be given to the office, in writing. Students who are not enrolled in SRE or SEE will participate in other meaningful activities during that time.

In SRE students have the opportunity to question, explore and discover for themselves, belief and values education. Research conducted in NSW shows that participation in SRE contributes to wholistic education and wellbeing.

The Christian SRE curriculum is authorised by The Baptist Union of NSW. For More information about the curriculum taught in SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit the website https://godspace.org.au/

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
